The Good Use Programme

This interactive programme consists of 3 sessions which are attended by a maximum number of 10 and a minimum of 6 in each group. This is for quality, experiential learning of the principles of The Good Use Programme. The emphasis is on prevention so that rehabilitation is unnecessary.

We aim to educate staff to: -

  • have good work habits, keep well at work and preventing symptoms of pain, aching, pins and needles and stiffness occurring
  • keep their work stations organised to minimise effort and maximise effectiveness
  • recognise early symptoms of pain and discomfort and what to do about them immediately - i.e. take action with the minor problems to eliminate the major problems
  • apply the principles of The Good Use Programme to activities outside the workplace

The sessions are as follows:

Part 1

Office or computer workers get taught a different emphasis to staff in a manual handling job. Individual body charts are provided for self recognition of tension in problem areas. Then each individual’s work station is assessed and their body chart information discussed individually.

Time - 30 minutes away from their work.

Part II

Extension of information from Part 1 to be attended within a few days time. Handout provided.

Time - 1 hour away from their work.

Part III

A month from lecture 1, giving time for change of awareness of use patterns. Review of body chart from Part 1.

Time - 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on problems and questions.
